Why do this?

Grouping objects by color, size, or shape is vital for cognitive development, improving visual perception, memory, attention, and problem-solving skills.


This activity in particular, also improves concentration, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills as children insert sticks into cardboard pockets.

Color Matching Wall Activity

What You Need:

  • 4 colors of cardboard paper
  • 4 colors of popsicle sticks
  • Glue
  • Washi tape

How To:

  1. Fold the cardboard papers in half or quarters depending on your cardboard size.
  2. Cut them into the shape of an arch.
  3. Glue both sides of the cardboard, leaving the top open to form a pocket.
  4. Stick the cardboard on a wall or any flat surface using washi tape.
  5. Present your child with the sticks and allow them to discover it on their own.
  6. Show them an example by inserting the right color stick into its respective cardboard pocket, encouraging them to follow along.
